Thanks for the comments! It's only in the house for a couple more days...It grows outside and all the buds and flowers will fall off if kept in the house for more than a week. It has to have the hot full sun to do well.

What a lovely pink Andy......I hope that when mine eventually flower, they will look half as beautiful as yours...........then I will be pleased

Beautiful flower

Milky:

Thanks for the compliment! This is actually a named variety or hybrid. Your plant will probably have the flowers like my other plant that I've posted in the past.

Aleyna:

I would think this would grow very well where you live. Does it?

Andy:
I'm not sure about have seen these plants here.
It seemed like "espirradeiras" to me, but checking the botanical name I found they are Nerium oleander, not the same plant.

Aleyna:

They are not a Nerium oleander, they are in the Apocyanaceae family...which is the same family Oleander is in.

Beautiful Andy. I hope the leaves don't fall off mine. Why do they fall? Is it too humid or cool inside for it?

Gilli:

Desert rose will go dormant in late winter or early spring...when it loses all its leaves. Then it will bud and bloom. This is very typical of this plant.

I can only keep mine in the house for about 4 or 5 days...or the flowers and buds will fall off. The reason is because it grows outside all year in full sun...and doesn't like the adjustment to lower light levels.

Oh, I see Andy. That explains things. I thought for a moment they didn't like growing indoors. LOL

Gilli:

I know even when Desert Rose is grown as a house plant it prefers high-light levels to bloom well.

They are growing under lights in my "grow op" at the moment. They seem to like it.

Gilli:

Do they bloom for you in the house?

23 May, 2009

I don't know yet Andy. They are still just past the seedling stage. The biggest one is still only 2.5" tall. They are looking good though.

25 May, 2009

Gilli:

Are they seedlings? If so, they will take 1 to 3 years before blooming.

25 May, 2009

Andy:
They are seedlings. Just planted last December some time. I expected them to take a while before they flowered.

Gilli:

They should bloom fairly small. My Adenium obesum (not the one in this photo) bloomed as a very small plant the first year I purchased it...however, I don't know how old the plant was when I purchased it.

That is one of the joys of gardening. You never know what's going to happen. :o)

Gilli:

That's very true! It's ironic you bring this point up...I posted a photo of one
my African Tulip trees which is very small only 2 feet/ 61 cm and it's blooming already...I have never seen such a small plant bloom.

Oooo....sounds great. I'm off to look at the pic. :o)
