My crop of Broccoli have been completely wiped out by cabbage whites and their caterpillars what is the best way to protect my broccoli plants in future?

A friend of ours has a huge brassica cage and grows all her green leafy crops in this. It certainly works but needs to be movable as you don't want to grow your brassicas in the same area each year.
Between the flea beetle and the caterpillars our broccoli is done for too, the caulis. aren't too hot either. The cabbages on the other hand are fine and just a little 'frilly'!

Depending on how many plants you have, I'd recommend you use horticultural fleece around them in future during the 'danger season' when the white cabbage butterflies are out and about. Fleece isn't expensive and allows air and moisture to pass through.

Thanks for that, i will make or buy one for next year, it was my first year at growing broccoli as my wife amd i enjoy it in meals and thought growing our own would be a good idea, went on holiday for a week came back and they were crawling with caterpillars, although i managed to kill them all with garlic granules, it was too late, thanks again.

The Fleece is regularly used to protect carrots from the dreaded root fly

I didn't have a problem with the carrots, they turned out fine, best ones yet :o)

One way to help prevent the root fly is to companion plant your carrots with leeks and onions. The smell of these confuses the root fly lol
