I have been given a pot containing the lovely scented spring-flowering gladiolus tristis. Can anyone give me advice on cultivation for this? Is it hardy? I have a lovely sunny spot beside my drive, but this gets very hot and dry at the height of summer. Would this matter?

On plant Gladiolus Tristis

It will survive in the ground over winter as long as the soil is well drained and it is planted below the level to which frost can penetrate. Not sure I would plant them out now though, the soil might be a little cold for the corms. I would tend to keep the pot in a cool greenhouse or room until Spring. It would love a hot dry spot as described, to ripen off the corms after flowering.

How do I say thanks?
