What is the botanical name of a normal old pea plant?

Hi Pip, the garden pea is Pisum sativum.

Hello Pip c how is your course going?

Isn't it strange that we always seem to use the common names for veg?

I have quite a number of veggie books and just one of them uses the scientific name before the common name. Most don't even have the scientific name at all. I had to look this up before answering Pip's question.
To be quite honest, I was surprised at the name I found as I was expecting it to be a Lathyrus (everlasting pea).

yes that has always surprised me too, except i expected sweet peas to be Pisum due the work by gregor mendel and his genetics.

You're telling me Drc... and now I am on "Christmas break" too, so I'll pick it up again in Jan. For now, though, it's out of sight, out of mind for a month... phew!
