Hi all
Bad news....................the sun has killed 50% of my seedlings in my 5 tier growhouse. They were in propergators with lids on and cover zipped up. I know big mistake, as the thermometer had registered 51degrees c. I know i should have taken lids off and left cover open but can anyone suggest an effective way of stopping the direct sunlight on the growhouse
Many Thanks& thanks for your time.
P.S Just been looking on the net, would a fleece cover protect from the suns rays?

a layer of net curtain will make the light more diffuse. Or site the structure away from the south facing aspect.

I don't think the sun is hot enough yet if the seedlings are uncovered and the cover is unzipped they should be OK, I have mine open day and night at the moment.

Hi green but keen,
If you feel the sun has caused this damage why dont you use what i use, its a small pkt of white powder (most gardencentre's have them) and all you do its mix this with water and paint it on, it stay on inspite of rain but it stops the sun's rays causing damage, the product is sold using all names, the one i bought from bridgemere garden centre years ago is called glass shade, "it just wipes off using a dry cloth.
Have you auto matic roof window opening device?
This will help to keep the greenhouse from getting to hot.

Doesn't work on a plastic grow house Dungy.

And the bestr way to keep any structure cool is to stop the sun's rays from hitting it. As said fleece or net curtains draped over in such a way that there is a space between the fleece and the plastic cover/glass is the best way of all.
