How hardy are my plugs?

By Sazzer

I have just bought small plug plants - verbena bonariensis and nemesia. Is it okay to plant them straight out into the garden, or should they be potted up for a bit to grow stronger? I did that with the last lot and the snow killed them off!
P.S. I live in Edinburgh.

Thank you for the helpful reply! Sound advice. I'm sure.

Put them into those trays of cells, about 1 inch or 1 1/2 inch and get them going under cover , to risky to plant out anything as small as plug plants.

definitely keep them under cover till there are no more frosts.

Gosh no do not plant out follow advice above... You are still going to get frosts which will kill any plug plant!

Sound advice above, but I would plant up individually into 3" pots if you have the room. It's a lot easier to water and look after single pots and the plant will create a strong root system.

If you can keep them in a greenhouse in the 3" pots then begin to harden them off mid may you should be fine

Whats the old saying

"ne're cast a clout 'til may be out"
Blossom or month.......

I suggested the small cells, as plug plants come in large numbers, and space for 100 x 3" pots is hard to come by.

How do I say thanks?
