my mature deciduous azalea had very poor blooms this year. I've never had any problems. The blooms were sparse and there is significant dead wood. The winte wasn't particularly severe. Would you recommend cutting the deadwood and fertilizing it now? There is no sign of disease or bugs. All the other similar azaleas were beautiful. Any thoghts what might be going on?

Yes remove any dead growth and feed with an ericaceous (acidic) feed. Is the azalea in a windy spot or a frost pocket perhaps?
