Plant ID please is it a poppy of some kind? 2 photos, one of the flower and one of a bud and leaves. This has self seeded in the middle of a patch of garlic and thyme. I love it and want more but in a different place. I've never seen these kind of leaves on a poppy so a bit confused.

Yes its a poppy, don't know which name. I think its the same family as the opium poppy with its smooth leaves.

it is the opium poppy Papaver somnifera. let the seed head mature and collect the very small seeds. keep them in an envelope of paper bag. scatter where you want them in the spring. you will have them for many years to come. they may come in different colours too. from this very pale pink to bright red through the lilacs and plums.

I have these. They self seed and some years I have dozens of them in different shades and other years, as this year, I have only a few. I am very fond of them and the bees tumble about in them as if drunk!

Thank you all. Do they like full sun? I'll scatter them in different places see how they do.
