This clematis was bought (via internet) as C. 'Venosa Violacea' and has a label attached that declares it to be just that.

I am fairly sure this is Clematis texensis; But which one?
Is it 'Princess of Wales' or 'Gravetye Beauty'. Or perhaps another?

I would have words with the supplier but alas neither OH or I can remember where we got it!

Very similar to Princess Diana, but definitely not Venosa Violacea which is, I think, the viticella group. See the final colour when it opens? Taylor's clematis, I've found, are helpful with ident

My gripe is that the supplier sent this out wrongly. Bad continuity and poor administration.
Besides, I already have 'Princess of Wales' or 'Princess Diana' (they are available under both names), in the front garden.
However, a clematis of any sort has a place in the garden and I will try again to collect Venosa Violacae.
