What is the name of this plant ?

My sister had this in her garden and she just couldn't get rid of it. It also has an unpleasant smell when pulled up. Can't remember the name of it though.

It's a Houttuynia cordata 'Chameleon'. Can be very invasive, bit like mint can, so best kept in a confined pot. This is also sold as a pond marginal.

I grow it in a pot at the side of my pond, and divide it every few years. This gives me some extra plants to sell for charity

I had a difficult job getting rid of this when it threatened to take over large chunks of my small garden. I agree about the unpleasant smell too. Very invasive take care where you plant it.

It still features on suppliers' lists as a pond marginal, as said above, but I wish they'd put a 'Health Warning' with it. It's surprisingly adaptable, and can spread itself about, in some of the apparently driest spots. Where it gets a cool root run it really goes for it. Having said all that, the foliage makes a lovely splash of colour. Just manage it properly

It is very pretty. We have had it in our pond and as a potted plant and also planted in the garden. The unusual smell is like orange peel.

I like the smell of orange peel but this didn't smell like that!
