Got a Victoria plum tree about 4 years old. First year produced fruit but not had anything for past two years then this year heavily laden with fruit which is just starting to ripen but when I cut into the fruit they all have a maggot inside them. I have checked the unripe fruit and they have one inside too. I will have to destroy all the fruit on the tree. Is there anything I can do to prevent this infestation in future?

Probably Plum Moth larvae. Get yourself a pheremone trap to use early next year - if you only have the one plum tree, this might be enough to prevent infestation, but it will at least tell you if/when they're present. You'll need to spray if the pheremone trap doesn't keep them off - Bayer Sprayday Greenfly Killer or Westland Plant Rescue Fruit and Veg Bugkiller will do the job - to be applied mid June, but check the instructions in case they've changed.
