I am shortly to receive an Aspidistra indoor plant. Could you tell me the type of soil/compost it would be best to pot it into?

Roger Chapman

Ordinary potting compost will do, and it should be kept moist (but not wet/damp).
The Aspidistra will also tolerate a but of dryness if it has to.
It likes a light place, but not in direct sunshine.
Good luck. I hope you enjoy your new plant :o)

Got mine in the bathroom which is bright and humid and it's thriving. They don't mind a bit of shade and prefer to be slightly pot bound. They're also fairly slow growing.

One of my favourites....enjoy

The one I had many years ago was really neglected and thrived nevertheless and had tiny flowers which sat on the soil which were purple and white star shapes.

Mine once belonged to my
Then my gran had it, and now I've got it.
It has those flowers every winter, and my dad used to say it flowered in his gran's house when he was a little boy :o)
