My purple shamrock Hebe and Pittisporum have been frosted on top .
What will I do?
Should I prune the brown frosted part of plants and hope they will grow again?

Leave them for a while, Kath - one of my Hebes looked dead this time last year, so I left it until the end of May before I did anything, and it sprouted new shoots from lower down. My little Pittosporum was fleeced through the frosts and was fine - then a chilly wind has burned all the top growth, and it looks dead - but I'm also leaving that until later.

Thankyou Barbara last year hebe came through winter and had abeautiful show all of 2009 and of course Pittosporum was new 2009 but I forgot to cover with fleece.

There is new growth at bottom but top really frosted.

But we certainly have had along cold winter.

I took one out - and I've put a pink ceanothus in - it's not evergreen, but it's hardy, which is important, isn't it.

I have not seen a pink ceanothus Barbara my ceanothus tree is also looked as if its been frosted.

Like idea of a pink ceanothus.

Yes - I saw one somewhere, and had it on my 'wish-list', so when I had to remove the hebe, I did it! It's only about 2'6" tall at the moment, so I'll have to be patient.

Have you lost a lot, Kath?
