We had some plumbing problems and the grass was dug up near our house in the front yard. My gardener put some new sod down for me, about 7 x 10 feet. He gave me no information for watering, etc. but did it every day and this is about 5 weeks later. Slowly bit by bit the area is turning yellow and there are many spots without any grass in 1/3 of the area now. My gardener said it is from a cat urinating. I don't know if I believe him but there are stray cats that come by. If it does not get better he will lay new sod down. What could be causing this and if it is a urine problem how can I solve it. Thanks.

It could be what they used to fill in the hole that they dug that's causing the problem.

Cat and dog urine could also cause grass to turn green, but I'm at a loss to understand why they are only using the new turf as a toilet. If this is the case, then the best way to get rid of animal urine is to give it a good soaking with a hosepipe to dilute it.
