Clematis Macropetala 'Wesselton'
I have this in full bloom at the moment and I don't really want to curb it, however it shares the little arbour with a lovely rose, Francois Juranville which will bloom in June. Was it wise to plant the clematis to mingle with this rose? I am worried that the new growth will smother poor old Francois! I have tried to add the photo but I seem to have forgotten how to do it (AGAIN)!! I will try again.

Francois Juranville is a vigorous grower - the clematis reaches around 2 metres height and spread, but as it is a spring flowering one, what you can do is cut back as soon as it has finished flowering so it doesn't smother the rose. Cut some of it back to healthy buds, not right down to the ground, just to keep it a bit thinner than it might otherwise be, and feed it. You will lose the seed tassels though.

Thank you Bamboo,That is very reassuring. I'll do as you say, leaving the long pieces that trail down the front, so as to enjoy the tassels on those.
