Hi, I have inherited a wistaria which is around 25 years old, its been grown as a tree and is right on my garden boundary, part of it hangs over the neighbours garden but she is happy for it to be there. Problem is I have no idea of how to prune it and I'm sure it needs some drastic reshaping, any help would be much appreciated.

Awww! It looks lovely, sorry I'm not to good at pruning, hope someone will give you an anwser.

It doesn't need anything too drastic. The main thing with Wisteria is that in summer (Aug?) you cut back any new, long shoots that you don't require for extending the plant, to 6 leaves. Then in Jan you cut these back to 2 buds. This will make flower buds form, a bit like on an apple tree. Make sure that you or the neighbour prunes the other side too!

How do I say thanks?
