Moving an apple tree....
My house was once the dairy for the town, and we are having the old bans converted to a house early next year. I have a beautiful wee (4 ft ish) well established apple tree (the apples are the ones with a pinkish tinge to the flesh). Unfortunately the tree is right beside the barn and we will need to move it. I know that now is not the time, the blossom has just died off, but I would like to be prepared. So my question is, when is the best time to move it and how!

The best time to move your apple tree is in the autumn, before then would be a risk against it's survival. Meanwhile you can start by cutting round the tree with a spade to make it easier for lifting later and if you cut any roots it will allow them to heal before lifting.
