Peonies. Now that mine have finished flowering when can I lift and divide? Do I have to wait until the autumn? Do they cope well with being moved? Many thanks

Gosh ours are barely flowering yet… wait until October to lift and divide.

Mine are fushia pink ones that flowered during the horrendous rain showers so many didn't really get a change to open up fully and bloom. They looked so sad beaten down by torrential rain! In the autumn could I just dig up and divide like you do with perennials? The wind at times has been quite strong over the last few weeks and has managed to blow off flower petals of my hardy geraniums and bashed my tall foxgloves, lupins and delphiniums. Not a great sight I must admit.

Paeonies should be moved in autumn immediately after the top growth has died down. They start into growth (below ground) very early in the year, so don't leave it until spring.

And remember not to plant them any deeper than they were originally. They will not flower if the buds do not get a cold period.

How do I say thanks?
