Do fuchsias suffer from canker? Some older stems on a couple of my hardy ones have peeling bark and the cut stem has a small brown core. Is this just because after last years mild winter I didn't cut all the stems back to the ground?

Not in the UK they don't, no - but they can get fuchsia gall mite.

This sounds typical of the natural die back of the wood over winter. When I tidied up mine today they are the same. Nothing to worry about. Some fuchsias have a peeling bark too and I have always thought it rather pretty.

Thank goodness for that. No mention of canker on Google but you can't be too careful can you?

How do I say thanks?
