This Shrub (attached) bears Leaves, Flowers (Mauve) and Berries (Red) twice per year.
Can anyone identify it.
It has recently died but due to the number of dropped Berries I have hundreds of new shoots around the area.
Thank you

It is (or was) daphne mezereum

Wonderful scent too. Never knew they could flower twice in one year though.

I have never seen that before. Yes, the picture is Daphne mezerum but I have not seen flowers AND red berries at the same time. Ours only flower the once. If you have any seeds, Hughes, i would like to try some!
Or contact Neil Huntly at Hartside Nursery, Alston
he may be interested in your Daphne.

I get the odd second flower but not nearly as spectacular as that. shame it died.

I think many daphnes have a lifespan of around ten years. With me, D. 'Eternal Fragrance' flowered itself to death in seven years, but D. tangutica and burkwoodii 'Somerset' lasted thirteen.

I reckon on about fifteen years for mezereum (in our garden) and we have had Daphne retusa for 20 years, still going strong. Daphne cneorum lasted less than 15, pity!

How do I say thanks?
