Surely it can't be a Malope T. .

I just went out to see if I could get seeds from the remains
Of my Malope Tryffidae on the front and took 2 flowers off. But they're quite different ! The larger one on the left is same as all the other flowers but what is the smaller one on the right ? Perhaps a poppy ? But there have never been poppies there.

Yes, the RH one is definitely a poppy. It looks like an opium poppy, Papaver somniferum. They seed about prolifically, and the seeds are viable for many years.

That is definitely a poppy, Hank. The seed may have been dormant in the soil for years and your recent exertions in digging up everything have brought it to the surface.

Or the seed may have been dropped by a bird, or carried in on the fur of a cat or small mammal.

Thanks guys. You say I can set the seeds - exactly how please. I'd really like to have more of them. Please be specific - I'm not good with foower seeds..

Just let the seed heads ripen naturally. They will then pop up when the soil is disturbed. If you want particular varieties then buy packs of seed and follow the instructions - flower seeds are no different to veg seeds (except that they rarely need as much pampering)
