I had a wonderful crop of cherries on my tree this year, greater than usual but when they ripened ready for eatng they all went rotten from the inside, very quickly. Can tou advise me why this happened

Looks alright from the outside and dark mushy on the inside? If so it could be blossom end rot which is caused by a fungus.

There's a brief window to harvest ripe cherries - they turn from ripe to rotten very, very quickly, especially if the weather is humid. In the UK, cherries don't suffer from blossom end rot, that's a problem exclusive to solanums (tomatoes, peppers, aubergines).
