I am growing winter squash in containers in my greenhouse and outdoors. Both seem to be healthy have plenty of flowers and fruit forming. I have been polinating by hand but most of the fruit starts to rot and drop off. Has anybody got any ideas ?

If the plants are wilting a little between watering, they might have blossom end rot, a calcium deficiency in the fruit caused by drying out at night. I would make the watering more consistent, maybe switch to evening watering, and possibly apply gypsum or lime to the soil (last resort). Good luck, Puddock!

Thanks Tugbrethil I may have to try the lime or gypsum as I am already watering in the evening. I also soak greenhouse floor every morning and mist around mid day as I have tomatoes, chillies, sweet peppers and aubergenes in the same greenhouse
