What do I do when my cordeline has finished flowering for the first time in its forth year the starlings mainly stripped it of its seeds that were left and now although new growth has been evident the old shoots from the seeds are sticking outwardly from the tree making it lean outwards a bit.

Trim off the flower stem at the base, where it arises on the plant, preferably without damaging any leaves. You may need a pair of loppers, depends how thick the stem is.

normally after it has flowered it will produce another shoot
rather than just the one which yours has now , I think they look better once they start branching and less leggy.
