I have a caryopteris which I pruned as usual after flowering. This year there are very few green leaves on it and a lot of dry branches which break off. It has been in my garden for about 10 years and has always flowered well. Should I replace it?

On plant Caryopteris x clandonensis

This shrub should be pruned in March or early April rather than after its flowered. Prune it back now, you can take it down to as low as 2 inches if you want. Cutting back after flowering means late autumn, so the plant responds by trying to grow and gets caught by cold weather.

How do I say thanks?
