I quite liked the lok of this at first, but it's now taking over my "spherical" bush. I wonder if it's just another ivy taking over ?
If the answer's yes I'm readybwith my secateurs.

It looks like my euonymous bush so that's my guess, or a holly bush.

Looks like Euonymus fortunei 'Silver Queen', an attractive shrub, easy to prune to shape. What is your 'spherical bush'?

Yes its a silver variegated Euonymus. They will stand hard pruning so clip it to the shape you want.

Sorry Shirley, being a beginner ( still ! ) it was the best way I could describe it. I'll ask another question and enclose a photo, then you can tell me how to describe it if I ever have a similar question.
Meanwhile, Thanks for the replies guys, maybe I'll leave it.
