I grew a Suttons Indigo Rose Black tomato plant from seed this year, it has produced a moderate crop of black tomatoes, but none of them are ripening fully. For weeks now they have had a healthy black colour about 2/3 of the way down the tomato (see photo) but the last part obstinately refuses to ripen. Any ideas on how I can achieve the final ripening please.

They look healthy enough. Try eating a couple.

There is a review of this new variety which suggests that they need to be left a bit longer assuming that you have been giving a high potash feed then there is still time. Have a look at:

I tried a plant last year and it was indeed very slow ripening - had difficulty knowing when it was finally ripe too.

Thanks for the information, I shall persevere and hopefully the taste will be worth it.
