My friend has asked me a problem with her japonica

United Kingdom Gb

My friend has asked me a problem with her fatsia japonica. Leaves are going orange and black. Looks like new shoots. Nothing in the leaves... some orange specs. An oaktree behind was removed. What is it and what should she do?

On plant Fatsia japonica

I think you mean Fatsia Japonica, the word 'Japonica, simply means the plant came originally from Japan. Two possibilities spring to mind, a late frost which has damaged the new leaves or an acute lack of water. The removal of the oak tree shouldn't have caused a problem unless it has now exposed the Fatsia to a lot of wind.

Thanks moongrower.

7 May, 2017 looks just like mine used to after a frost. I gave up on them.
