Flowers for cutting. I'd really like some suggestions for colourful, reliable and perennial flowers for cutting please. They have to be tough and preferably flower in July. A lot of my perennials are only just beginning to flower now.

I grow quite a few flowers and different foliage for cutting and in July I had Echinops, Phlomis, Gladioli, Roses of course, pink and purple Phlox, Veronica, Perennial Gypsophila, Carnations and spray carnations (grown from pipings of shop bought) and Kniphofia, amongst others. I like Fennel in an arrangement too and although it's annual, you can't beat Ammi. For foliage I use different Euonymus, Fatsia, Fatshedera and different Heuchera leaves around the base of an arrangement if it's in wet foam. The list is endless and I think it would depend on what part of the country you live and when things flower. Cutting time and conditioning is important too.

Hi Karen! I just posted a couple pics of my Rudbeckias and mentioned how they make excellent cut flowers. I've been using them for arrangements and just alone in a bud vase on the breakfast table. The flowers are ginormous with long sturdy stems and a deep rich two/tone orange/gold color. The variety I'm growing and recommend is 'Indian Summer' They stand out among all the others. They keep blooming all the way to frost and will quickly fill your flowr bed. Easy to grow from seed. They need a sunny location with average, well draining soil. Check out my gallery.
