Can anyone help identify this plant which has recently appeared on our lawn?

With a rosette of strappy, ground hugging leaves?
Some sort of plantain, plantago major perhaps

Plantago species, most likely P major going by the flower/seed head spike.

if you want to get rid of them, then use a knife/daisy grubbing tool and cut it out. try to get them out before they seed everywhere. it is often a sign that the grass/soil is in need of aeration.
