Privet for peas sticks?
We've just trimmed back a large privet on our boundary and I also need a few pea sticks. Is there any reason why I can't use the privet? Pretty sure there's no reason why not but would like to be on the safe side...don't want to inhibit the growth of the plants - I only have a few.
I've used Forsythia in the past ( and it rooted too...)

Privet will also root quite easily. Never heard of it killing peas though.

I agree it may root well but it wont do any harm to the peas.
If you want to use them, then you could strip the bark off the lower part before you put them in the ground as that will prevent nutrients flowing down to any latent buds. don't bury any bits with bark on them though.

Old plot holders would always burn the ends of pea sticks to stop them from rooting.

Thank you to all three - I'd forgotten about removing the bark from the bottom of the sticks - thank you! Glad to hear that using privet is OK - its the only twiggy branches on the heap just now so its welcome news.
