i have a climbing rose(new dawn).it starts off lovely but as soon as there is any rain it goes all brown and the buds are all mushy and horrible.does anyone know anything of this. think i will dig it out its too much trouble.what would you reccomend for easy maintenance for climbing a south facing wall

Many roses have flowers which react like this to the rain, not uncommon at all. If your southfacing wall is very sheltered, out of cold winds, Trachleospermum jasminoides is a good climber, evergreen, fragrant flowers in summer, but best planted in Spring where you live. Otherwise, there's a whole range of Clematis that would suit, although most of those are not evergreen.
