My mother died recently and she had an 8 year old Robinia pseudo acacia in her garden I would like to dig this tree up and plant it in my garden, would this work successfully and how would one move it?

On plant Robinia

You would have to dig it up when it has lost it's leaves for the winter. You need as large a rootball as you can manage for it to survive. 8 years old may be too big and it can be upsetting if it dies after you've moved it. How about just buying yourself a new one of the same variety?

Thanks this may be the best option.

Yes, I think so. You can always remember 'Mum had one of these' and maybe even re-visit the original from time to time!
