My last 2 years’ tomatoes have been disappointing, perhaps I’m potting them in the wrong stuff. Can anyone tell the best “soil “ for this purpose ? Thanks

I tend to buy growbags for my toms and then use the contents into my deep tomato pots. Never bothered with any particular brand, just gone for the best offers. To be fair that does tend to be Levingtons.

I have always felt there isn't enough depth for getting decent plants if just popped in the growbag.

Thanks s.g., I always use deep pots so growbags it is.this year.

Hank, maybe it's the varieties you use? Are they grown outside or in?

In what way do they disappoint?

I have bought some heritage toms, the name of which I’ve already forgotten. Please suggest others as I have plenty of room.

Some I can recommend, Sungold, and universally acclaimed Gardeners' Delight, at it's tastiest outside in sun

Failsafe would be Moneymaker, the red, round & six to the pound one

One heritage is Bloody Butcher, small fruited & dark red, tasty though

And I've found Yellow Balcony ideal, small yellow cherry fruit, compact patio type plants ideal in hanging basket or tubs

Thanks G, just what I wanted

I agree with Grandad, Gardener's Delight takes a lot of beating for growing outside. If its a greenhouse variety then I've found Shirley has been the best for me as it also has a good immunity against viruses.

Thanks J, reckon Shirley sounds good, I’ve never grown it before, might include 2 or 3 this year.

How do I say thanks?
