Hallo all. Today somebody gave us this plant. It says on the plant label that it is a Campanula but nothing more about the variety. Can somebody tell me if it is an indoor one or an out door variety.

Hi Rogi.
I'm adding this question to GoYpedia Campanulas, as it may be useful to other members in the future :o)

I can't say for sure, but will tell you that, whenever I've had one from, say, a supermarket or garden centre (not sold from outside, but under shelter or inside) they've never made it through a winter outside.

Same here Bamboo. I thought it was just me. I've had them die off during the summer too. That's the Cornish summer for you. :-( I didn't know there were indoor Campanulas - that might explain a lot.

Rogi, yours looks like Campanula portenschlagiana. Last Summer I've saved one from the supermarket and planted outside. It felt well. :) Don't know how it is now, but this variety is hardy (Z 4-8). Looking forward to the Spring to see it's OK (I'm sure! :)) Good luck with it!

Hallo all. Thanks for the answers. Uma wrote "this variety is hardy (Z4-8)" on the plant label it has also got a number PLU 826 but searching in google didnĀ“t help me so maybe the number in this case is just from the supermarket or wherever it came fom inthe first place. Never mind I will keep it indoors until the warmer weather comes...or until my green house it put up and see what happens.

There are some tender varieties of Campanula, and I suspect this is one of them, meant to be used as a temporary houseplant. I'd still plant it outside in late spring anyway, rather than bin it, you never know your luck...

How do I say thanks?
