What is this plant?

Essex/NJ, United States Us

Hello All...This plant was one of the pleasant surprises from my garden last year. The long tendrils and pretty pink flowers grew out of a mound of dirt that got misplaced from making a bed. I left it there, it had some pretty red long slim branches/tendrils growing out of it, and then pink flowers emerged. Anyone know what it is? This isn't the best picture..

Good Morning - you have a Gaura lindheimeri plant there - I love them! There's a white version, too, and a variegated leaved one. They do not always make it through the winter, but fingers crossed!

This happens to be one of my favorites -- although i think i say that about most of my flowers that stick with me through thick and thin. I have a very WET garden, puddles everywhere in the spring, and little drainage. Amazing anything grows. We put a drainage pipe in, and that helps, but we're at the mid section of a hill where the folks at the top put a drainage pipe and all the water runs down down down.. .to me! I was checking out your garden, you have a lovely one! Thanks again, and have a great day!

You are very welcome, Poetgardener - and thanks for the comment on my garden!

It must be difficult growing things in such a wet area. There are lots that enjoy it, though!

o bother - the Gaura was one I actually knew! Got here too late.
Ours is in a sheltered corner, and seems quite happy through winters.

I guess I wonder how these things just grow out of nowhere! It's the same with my spider flower, it just came from a weed. The yard was actually all dug up two years ago, and was nothing but dirt and mud. I began to plant things then, and this year added more, and this just grew! I don't know if it will make it through the raw NJ winters, but like the weather, I'll have to wait and see!

I've grown quite attached to this, hope it makes it! Thanks~

So, it's the first day of Summer, and Dad's day, too, and I was in a nursery looking for a plant to bring to the cemetery and came across some of these "Guara's". I was so excited, and of course you were all right! What I have is a Guara Pink, but funny enough, I can't seem to find it in my garden. I think with all the rain this year it hasn't grown back. So I bought another one. Who knows shen I'll ever be able to plant, my Garden is so Boggy! (Wet!!).

Thanks for your help, gardeners!! And Happy First Day of Summer to us all!

Oh, and the one I bought this time is called Gaura 'Siskiyou Pink'. Very lovely! I'll make sure I take better care of it this one so I don't lose it to Father Winter! Thank you all again!
