By Onleigh

I have bought a bag of miracle grow compost. When I have opened the bag it is full of what appear to be eggs. They are small and round orange in colour. What are they and are they harmful to seedlings and plants

Its plant food Onleigh, dont worry there not eggs :)))

Hi, im going out on a limb here, i suspect they arent eggs, a lot of composts have slow release fertilizers in them these little egg like shapes slowly break down releasing feed into the compost thus feeding the growing seeds / plants, try squeezing one to see what happens, it should be soft and liquid like inside, kind of white`ish fluid.

If in doubt return it to your retailer tho, they will replace it.

It's a fertilizer like one called Osmocote.. It's supposed to be there and confuses a lot of people :-)
