Oh Dot you sound very anxious about losing your birds, It could be a lot of things, cats, sparrowhawks, have neighbours activity increased? have you moved your feeding station? I wouldn't worry too much if there is all that food I wouldn't imagine they would ignore it for too long

Have you got bushes or trees where the birds can fly to? I find that they need a shelter where they feel safe, then they fly to the bird feeders and back to safety again.

If the feeders are too much in the 'open' they might not want to venture there.

Hi Dot, don't worry they'll be back, in times when there are lots of grubs etc to be found they do tend to not come to the garden so often.

Our Woodpeckers, Nuthatches,Bullfinches and Goldfinches won't return now until the weather turns really cold. Likewise the Long tailed tits & chaffinches.

The robin remains all year round, but prefers the worms in freshly dug soil rather than the dried meal worms provided.

Most of the fledglings will be learning to fend for themselves and to find food.

I still leave a little food as the Coal Tits come all year round, but too much food encourages the rats and mice, who in turn become food for the cat and Owls.

Any old food on the table should be cleared away and the table washed down as mouldy food is dangerous for the birds.

Hi Dot, I find if the birds feel safe in the garden, they will come and go and some weeks they dont seem to come at all and other times are there constantly. To add to what the others have said it takes birds a while to trust it is safe to feed, so if bird tables are moved they may take a considerable time to come back to it. The food also has to be dry and clean or they will often ignore it if its gone mouldy.

They'll be back. They just don't need so much help from us in summer. There's plenty of 'live' food around just now.

i,ve found pigeons have bullied the blackbirds out of my garden, so stopped putting food out at the moment. will start later when it gets colder and less natural food around.but i do suppose it,s only mother nature really, pigeons have to feed too?

Any spraying for insects been done lately, Dot? By yourself, neighbors, or the council?

I have found that the birds haven't been around for a few days because the farmer nearby has harvested his fields and therefore there is plenty food over the river. I can see them. They will come back when the time us right.
