Dear All
Now that our fig trees have lost all their leaves -can anyone tell us if we can prune a fig tree?
Also we have two olive trees not had any olives yet-can these be pruned back just in case we get any heavy snow this winter-or will this harm the trees in any way ?
The figs and the olives trees are about 8-10ft tall, and the branches spread out slightly.
Any information and help would be gratefully received

Hello ... certainly you can prune the fig tree now. I have done this earlier in the autumn, after fruiting, but the weather in the south is still so mild. Always cut back to a shoot, but lift and reduce as you wish. Olives need to wait until the spring before pruning, when you can cut out any weak shoots and prune to shape.

I would wait just a little longer with the fig, as it is so mild still, just to reduce bleeding a little. Then I would remove any damaged or crossing branches and open up the centre of the tree to allow air and light.

How do I say thanks?
