We have a big Ash tree in our back garden and would like to start planting some plants under it to lighten up the area. Any suggestions as to what we could plant?

Very little as the tree will be taking all the moisture and creating a lot of shade...

It is also very prone to dropping branches, so do not stand under it in a strong wind. And as for seedlings.............worse than Sycamore.
No chance of having it removed?

Your right the area is very dry and during the summer is always shaded. The dropping of branches is sometimes a pain however the kids do enjoy collecting them, so they do come in handy for fire wood. When we first moved in we did consider having the tree removed but it has grown on us. The tree also branches off therefore it's an unusual shape. I will try and upload a photo of the area soon. Thank you for replying.
