I have grown some beautiful white tulips in a pot, When they are finished , should I plant them in another part of the garden, or dry them off and store until the autumn

Hi Mary. I tried the lift and keep dry until Autumn method but forgot about them! So I err on the side of letting mother nature take control and keep them in soil :-)

I keep my bulbs in the pots and let them die down naturally .

And then they regrow following Spring.

Once flowering is over feed your tulips once a week with half strength tomato feed, this helps the bulb to form next years flower bud. When the foliage has completely died back you can un-pot if you need to and plant in the ground, otherwise you can just leave them in the pot and tuck away in a corner of the garden.

Note that if the bulbs were somewhat forced--i.e., planted just a few cm deep, and shoulder to shoulder--the bulbs have probably responded by breaking into dozens of little bulblets that may take several years to grow to blooming size again. Those will need to be unpotted this fall and planted around 10-15 cm deep to recover.
