Seedling ID question

By Elleme

Apologies for the rotten quality of this image, but I wondered if any of you might recognise this seedling anyway as it's so distinctive in shape. The leaf on the right has been nibbled, so the left is the most typical example. The leaf is only about the size of a penny and the stalk is red - feels quite firm like it's going to be a woody plant when bigger. Any ideas?

On plant N/A - unidentified

possibly a Clematis

That's what all plants look like to me when I'm drunk, and then I usually fall in the flower bed!

Ha ha, good thing I didn't take it this afternoon when I had lunch in a beer garden or the image quality would have been worse! I'm just rubbish at close up pics.

I hope it's a clematis, I could do with an extra climber...

The pics a bit fuzzy( no I havnt had any wine yet) any chance of trying again, im not convinced about a clematis?

Looks like an Acer of some sort, or Cannabis ;-)

I thought Acer too. but not quite like the Cannabis that came up in some of my Bird Seed.

ooh never thought of that, all I get from the bird seed is grass growing in my patio pots

I've heard it is an 'industrial' form of hemp, which does nothing to you if you smoke it.

I wondered about both acer and cannabis - there's a seed-bearing acer palmatum nearby and there used to be a birdfeeder not far away last year. I do like to grow herbs in my garden but didn't really intend that kind! When I googled cannabis seedlings they didn't really bear all that much of a resemblance though. I'll try to take a better pic tomorrow.

looks like a field maple?

My best guess is japanese maple as the new leaves have come out red, but I'll have to wait and see. For the meantime I've potted it up. Thanks for all the responses.
