Chilly seaside stroll

It might be August, but the temperature was cooler than of late yesterday morning!

We drove to a village just a few miles away, East of Bognor Regis, where there is a sailing club, a couple of little restaurant/coffee shops and a nice greensward.

Please join me on a little stroll . . .

Some hardy souls chose to brave the cooler weather, come what may!

There were some yachts taking part in a competition . . .

The stroll along and back shows some of the houses with magnificent sea views . . . many have re-figured the layout to have bedrooms downstairs with living rooms upstairs to enjoy the views. I would so love a house overlooking the sea!

If you were to continue walking Westwards, you would soon see the large complex of Butlins, Bognor Regis, which has been extended and refurbished over the past couple of years.

It was good to see some young lads in the rock pools, better to be out in the fresh air than cooped up in front of a screen!

Only a week ago, this plaque was erected in Fishermans Gardens to celebrate the life of Ernest Joyce, 1875-1940, Antarctic explorer, having been born in a cottage in nearby Admiralty Road.

The gardens are salt-laden but Hebes and Hydrangeas flourish within.

Hopefully the sun will be shining on the sea when we next visit.

Thank you for strolling along with me.

You must have appreciated your walk,Shirley, with no restrictions. ...a feeling of wide open spaces. The sea air always has an uplifting effect.

Lovely, we haven't been anywhere this year so are really hoping to see the sea even if just for the day soon and take the dog along :-)

Despite the chilly air I so enjoyed my stroll along with you Shirley. Thank you fo inviting me.
I'd like to live in one of those houses facing the sea too. I bet they have a different 'view' everyday and storms at sea must be a fantastic sight.

Thank you for the trip to the seaside. I do love to see the sea. If I had a house with a lovely view from upstairs, then that's what I would do too, switch the living / sleeping
arrangement.

Thank you for sharing pictures of your walk by the sea Shirley_tulip.

Thank you for the walk Shirley. I really enjoyed it! It has been cooler here but not cold enough for a coat yet and still going on the sea front for a walk and an icecream!

Thanks everyone for looking in . . . I was brought up not too far from this part of the coast and have always loved the sea. Mind you, there's no way I would swim in it these days, far too much muck in it now . . . :o(

Lovely sea air, thanks for the stroll Shirley...I do wish I lived nearer the sea too..
I often take Lottie and stroll be the Humber which is very wide and can feel a bit like the seaside...:))

Janey, we lived in Chesterfield for a couple of years, back in the late 80's and I yearned for the seaside walks!

I can imagine!

Thanks for the stroll along the seaside, Shirley! Makes up, a tiny bit, for not being able to go this year or last! 👍

About living in one of those houses that front onto the sea - I imagine that when a storm comes in from the sea you would need strong windows & an even stronger mindset while the strong winds are battering your house & the rain is pouring down in buckets! Not too sure if I could resist the temptation of wanting to get away! 😂 😂 😂

David, do you remember the Great Storm of 1987? We were abroad on holiday at the time, but pictures in the local paper showed many seafront blocks of flats with windows broken and, strangely, just the Eastern end of each block suffered damage to the brickwork.

Sadly, a fair few are 'second homes' or company owned holiday lets for their staff and are empty half the year. Makes me cross . . . :o(

Thank you for the stroll, Shirley. I feel I’ve had a nice day out!
We spent a few hours on Bognor Regis beach several years ago when we were doing a south coast mini tour for a week. We’d already done a south west tour previously. It really was a HOT summer that year, we were very lucky.

Have missed our trips to the seaside this last two years so thanks for sharing Shirley, only ever been to Bognor Regis once and that must have been over 45yrs ago, I enjoyed taking a stroll with you xx

Shirley, That was a lovely stroll, thank you, it certainly was a day beside the seaside x

Kate, I remember those - hot Summers that is!
There is a huge regeneration scheme in place for Bognor Regis - not before time . . .

Sue, I think these past two years have been difficult for folk in so many ways. The simple pleasure of walking by the seaside saw me through the first months of the first Lockdown. I'm sure it won't be too long before you can get out and about in your motorhome . . . :o)

Loupylou, glad you enjoyed the stroll too!

A nice walk and interesting to know a bit of the local history.
I hope it's warmer with you now Shirley.

Hywel, thank you for looking in. Weather is definitely turning Autumnal at times . . . especially in the evenings.

28 Aug, 2021

I agree, I've been putting the heaters on.

28 Aug, 2021

We haven't done that yet, but I fear it won't be too long before we do! Need to get the central heating and boiler checked first . . . :o(

Keep warm Shirley :) x

Hywel, I have a cardigan at the ready! . . . :o)) x

It's decidedly on the cool side here! 😞 We have had a great deal of cloud cover & very, very little in the way of sunshine for the last few days! We had only 16C as our max temp today! As tomorrow & the next few days are forecast to be very similar days we may put the heating on tomorrow - it's no sense making ourselves ill for the sake of trying to save a few pennies (or face!)

David, this morning we went t the beach at Littlehampton where the Lifeguards board stated that the air temp. was 21 degrees and the sea was 18. There were half a dozen folk swimming . . . I wouldn't swim in there if you paid me!

You wouldn't catch me in the sea either! 😂 😂 😂

Seems like the weekend & next week things are going to warm up a little! Hooray! 😂
