I ventured outside

By siris

Thanks to Klahanie posting a pic of Eranthis flowering now, I ventured outside to see if mine had emerged. Nothing as yet in the front garden by the low front wall, should be E. cilicica. But, look in the back under the purple Azalea, a little clump of E. hyemalis, think earlier flowering than E. c.

Also several plants of Primula vulgaris

Lots of the silver leaved Cyclamen. Although the flowers have finished, the leaves shine even on a drizzly day. Lots of seedlings within the plant, not necessarily with silver leaves. I’ll try to lift them later and grow on those with nicely patterned leaves.

Arabis caucasica still flowering.

In the more open front garden in the flower borders a touch of colour from Red Chicory? At least I think that’s what it is as it came from an old packet of Mesculun seed. (French mixed salad seeds)
If anyone can confirm the Chicory, I would appreciate it.

There’s still a purple and a pink Penstemon flowering, but the wind is so strong I couldn’t get a sharp pic.
Time to go inside, I think.

That is cheerful sight Siris. Spring is behind the corner (hopefully)
Silver leaves look very attractive.

Thank you
I would like the Eranthis to self seed, so I've have kept Eranthis cilicicia and hymenalis in separate parts of the garden as I understand they can cross pollinate to produce a sterile hybrid.
I do like silver leaved Plants. I have several shrubby ones. Convolvulus cneorum, Curry Plant, Brachyglottis, sort of grey/silver.
I have an edging of silver leaved Cyclamen hederifolium, all from the one original bought plant. I don't understand why the seeds germinate on top of the corm, that's not a good survival strategy, waiting for me to pick them out.

Your cyclamen leaves are VERY silver, Siris. You must have started with a stunning plant.
I love spring aconites but don't have much success with them, but SBG and others have kindly offered advice. Four years on the trot I have attempted to grow them.
Spring is on its way: we have lots of snowdrops appearing.

It's nice to find signs of life even in the middle of winter :)
