Meggie and friends

By sooze

Well I have had to de-ice my car every day this week except yesterday and today! So it’s clearly too early to get bedding plants and specimens for my patio pots – so I can’t show you those! So…what to tell you today? Our beloved cavalier king charles Meggie died some years ago now, and whilst at a car boot sale we saw the spitting image of her …modelled as an ornament!

Well that started the craze! Donkey was next – he sits quietly under the car port – waiting for excitement and sun I guess!

So more arrived – it’s like Noah’s ark! the Toads like it under the “ornamental” chimenea – nice and cool and damp under here!

…..and as for this cheeky piglet, he’s been rooting around among the pots again!

I love my cats but this isn’t one of mine! He has a friend somewhere too – spot him later!

…and those pesky snails get everywhere….even among the aquilegia! At least I don’t really have to worry too much about this one!

Oh look …. another green cat! The water pump was found in an old garden under ivy – fully restored (but not working) adds interest to the patio!

Now meet Tinkerbell – she is looking after my Abutilon which I very much hope has survived the winter snow – though there’s not much sign of life yet!

I really couldn’t go to the garden centre yesterday without bringing anything back..I’m starting to get withdrawal know what it’s like – garden is weed free, beds and pots are all ready…. so I just have to keep the wine glass full!! Anyway – found this lovely speckled viola which I thought young Ginny could look after while reading her books – but don’t tell her – she’s now 19 and at university!! …but still reading as she’s studying English Lit’

I also got a white Jacob’s Ladder – not seen one of those before. For the first year I think I need to nurture it in a pot on the patio … Robbie will help I’m sure…

And his friends will sit below – in case he drops a tasty morsel!

Here’s Mrs Tiggywinkle – she the one to keep the slugs and snails at bay!

Alan is quite into archeology and history so I have to let him have his taste in ornaments too (I like them as well though). Terracotta soldiers are one area of interest – all that terracotta that could be garden pots!!!

And how intriguing is Easter Island? Why travel all that way when you can have your very own monuments? I love how they stand out against the shed.

But until the bedding plants are strong enough to brave the volcanic ash and inclement weather, colour is added to the garden by…toadstools???

Yet another lovely corner waiting for colour – but another green cat is sitting patiently in the sun!

But if all else fails, we have an enclosed car port – built by the previous owner but far too small for a car! It is ideal for sitting under in the cooler, wetter evenings so it’s only right that we shouldn’t ignore that!
Lest we should forget, there are memories of the boys…

And holidays – when we go away we always buy a souvenir to remind us – but it has to be a plaque for our garden wall – all that sunshine, Never mind – only another 6 weeks before I can go off to Greece again!

But what’s this – Marble is tired of all this photography – surely it’s time to eat again?

Soon there will be sun and no frost – then I can get my pots filled and my bedding plants in…and just wait for them to bloom…like last year
