The Garden Community for Garden Lovers

And the next!

Well, I did say I would have a new project, and there it was, staring me in the face. I have to pass the flower bed on my way to the garden gate.
One morning I paused to dead head the Geraniums and noticed that the bed was definitely in need of a facelift.

Rosa ‘Ballerina’, which I inherited, waa dead. What a shame, it was a pretty one.

Oh well, it was an opportunity to plant something different. Just by chance, I had seen a photo of a new Caryopteris, a PINK one! I had researched where to buy one, and it had arrived the day before! It hadn’t yet flowered, but it was a good size.

The bed still looked scruffy. My newish rose ‘Birthday Girl’ at the far end had flowered, although it looks as though it will flower again…I hope!

Anyway, I already had a lovely Salvia called ‘Lavender Dilly Dilly’ close to my favourite Salvia ‘Caradonna’ and I decided to buy two more ‘Caradonna’.

Lavender Dilly Dilly

So off I went to my favourite Garden Centre where I was lucky. I got my ‘Caradonnas’.

I spotted some Aster frikartii ‘Monch’ which i already had in the bed, so I added two more to my trolley.
They really are great plants, flowering early and carrying on
and on.

Oh! Then I saw some very beautiful Phlox plants. They are a very unusual colour – white with slight pale mauve markings, and they have a wonderful scent!

That was going to be all – but I spotted some bright red Japanese Anemones called ‘Fantasy Red Riding Hood’.

They would look great near ‘Birthday Girl’.

I really had to stop looking around – I had spent a fortune!

It was a real pleasure digging up Achillea ‘The Pearl’ which is a thug in my garden…and planting my goodies.

I squashed some of the Achillea while I was working, but I am sure they will recover and fill the spaces in the bed.

This is what it looks like now…it has had its facelift and I find myself admiring the ‘new look’ flowerbed when I go past it.

That Border looks great. You have chosen some lovely looking plants. I've just had a second go at removing Achillea The Pearl, good luck with removing yours.

You made some lovely choices at the garden centre and your flower bed is looking very pretty indeed. I do love the scent of phlox and the colour of yours is so unusual.
It looks as if there might be room for at least one more!!!

lovely planting Barbara, I also love 'Caradonna' but in the last 3 yrs or so I have lost it. definitely one to replace. Shame about 'Ballerina', I remember it giving a good show. I wish my 'the pearl' was a little more thuggish, it is holding its own but not really taking off.
I love 'Monch' but it never returns for me unlike some of my other asters.

my front border will need to be thinned out this coming spring as it has got too big for its own good. That will be another planting opportunity to. I have a pale bicolour Phlox too, not as tall as P panniculata but a good plant none the less.

I think I'm going to try to get rid of The Pearl' once and for all. It is going to be a tough task, though!

That's a grand selection of new plants, and has started me off wanting a Caryopteris (got to be a blue one). The border looks great.

My favourites have to be the Phlox and red Japanese Anenome, I've never seen a red before Spritz..That was some spending spree but you bought some lovely plants, I'm sure it won't be long before those spaces fill up again......

Lovely project Barbara with very pleasing results. Spending many months at home ourselves, I think we have done similar projects ...... AND actually got control of our garden .... at long last. Getting ivy off fences and digging out the roots was one of the most satisfying.

Flippin' eck, now I've got to google your pink caryopteris, never seen a pink one and yes ....want one:-) Your garden always looks wonderful Barbara, but you'll have to go on bread and water after being so profligate! I do like my carradonnas, but they don't flower for as long as my cerra potosi, think I've got that right. Also love your anenome, not seen that colour before either. Want one:-))
