Hinton Ampner Gardens.

By sueb

Hinton Ampner was the home of Ralph Dutton the 8th and last Lord Sherborne. He inherited the house in 1936 and remodelled the house and gardens, and what we see today is a 20th century recreation reflecting his taste.

Ralph Dutton described himself as “not a very knowledgeable plants man” but by trial and error, he created one of the finest shrub gardens in England.

WOW that topiary (3rd photo) would take your breath away. It looks like seals on a beach to me. In fact the topiary throughout the garden is quite beautiful. The cordon apple looks very old. Top marks to the gardeners who look after this lovely garden. That perennial border is going to be superb when in full flower in summer. Thanks for letting us see it.

The topiary in the 3rd photo we think, is Magnolia flowers as its at the start of the Magnolia walk. It's a beautiful house and garden. I will go back again in the summer to see it in full bloom. It's only 16 miles away from home. The vista from Ralph Duttons bedroom is to die for.
