Branches into Twigs & Scottish Lychnis

The last few days have been calm and pleasant enough to do jobs that you can stand still, without having to ‘busy about’ and still keep warm.

A good few months ago we were having trouble with a neighbourhood cat coming into our garden. The man next door was trimming two of his trees into large piles of branches, so I asked if I could have them, saved him a trip to the tip.

I spread them across and up the back corner fence where the cat was coming in/out to make it more difficult but not dangerous. We also bought four cat scarers.

It’s been months now since we saw the cat though we’ve lost our family of mice, not sure if that is due to the cat or the scarers. We still have all of our birds, big and small, and our indoor cats aren’t bothered by the scarers.

So I’ve taken the branches and started to cut them into twigs to use instead of bark around the edges of the ‘wildlife’ part of our garden. It was a peaceful slow job which concentrated my mind nicely!

This is a photo of my two Lychnis plants, one we bought last year, a pink one which we absolutely adored. The other, (right hand side pot) is one all the way from Bonnie Scotland, thanks to the kindness of Scotsgran back in August. It’s a white version and looks a whole heap healthier than my pink one! Which just shows how tough the Scots are, being bundled into a box and posted in the mail obviously didn’t bother it a bit. What I am wondering is, should I trim the tatty outer leaves of the pink one on the left, or just leave them a while longer?

I'm glad you have healthy Lychnis plants. They're lovely flowers.
Also glad you cat problem has disappeared. It's a nuisance when cats scratch in your garden.

The cat was using all of my plant pots as a toilet and of course we have a lot of birds which I was worried about too. I think Lychnis are my newest favourite plants!
