Progress in the garden - The new pond rockery

Hello once again everybody.

Its been another hard work summer trying to get the pond area finished off.

I think we are finally there as the following pictures will hopefully show.

We have slated around the edge of the top waterfall pool and planted a few trailing rockery plants so that by this time next year hopefully the plants will trail over into the water.

Dont know quite how large the Gunnera is going to grow

but if it gets anywhere near the one we saw at Wisley gardens – see picture below ……..

….then we’re in big trouble

Next on the list is to dig out an area where the obelisk is for a rose garden. We thought it would be nice to have a fragrant area near to the garden seat.

We thought you might like to see how the garden looks at this time of year.

We planted some love lies bleeding earlier in the year but i really wasn’t expecting to get this big.

The climbers on the pergola are beginning to move up the poles now.

Unfortunately the baskets are beginning to go over so we will soon have to take them down.

We have an abundance of apples this year … about another 4 weeks or so and we should be able to start eating them.

Overall, we are pretty pleased with ourselves. 3 years ago we could never have dreamed of looking out on this.

Well that’s about it for now so until the next episode … happy garden days.

NB: i forgot to mention about the watering. We were put onto water meters earlier in the year … no do you want to or anything … they were just put in.

As we have had very little rain this year my water rates have just been raised by £7 per month as we now appear to be classed as a heavy user.

All i can say is that i’m glad i didn’t try to fill the granddaughters 50,000 gallon swimming pool this year.

oh well … happy days

That looks just fab. Tony, boy you have worked hard this summer, good job the weather was on your side. I love the pergola and yes, it will look great once the plants have grown a little bit more. Well done.

If I hadn't been following your progress I would not have believed that its only been 3yrs, its come on brilliantly Tony and looks a treat, you must be really pleased with it all, so bright and cheerful as well, its been a good summer for us and there's not a lot that beats relaxing by the pond on a lovely evening and listening to the water bubbling away, especially when its all your own work thats achieved it all.
I grew Love lies Bleeding for the first time last year and also got a shock at the size they became but they lasted right up until Nov and even when the leaves turned yellow they still looked good, I have a few this year but they haven't done as well, at least I now know which area suits them best in my garden..
Really enjoyed seeing your garden Tony and am eagerly awaiting the next episode but I'll be patient and allow you a rest. lol.....

I agree with all thats been said Tony, its just great when things come true to plan and so satisfying. I love your pond and waterfall and it will look even better next year when the new planting drapes itself over the sides.
