Pollen season

I am actually very lucky. I don’t have any pollen allergies, but I have much sympathy for those that do. Living in my area is especially difficult for people with pollen allergies.
There is a phenomenon in this area of the US, that so much blooms in such a short period of time that the pollen can be overwhelming. I have lived in a lot of different places but this is the only one where everything gets covered in pollen for about 2 weeks every spring. Everything takes on a pale green tint, and I mean everything, houses, cars, roads, lakes, rivers…everything. When people first move here they can’t believe it.

The US govt, does pollen counts everyday and has a scale for allergy sufferers. 120 is as high as the scale goes and is called extremely high….Today the count here was 1727 and the predicted average for this week is 2600. Living is the south can be quite a challenge! : )

Ooohh I wonder if this happens in Houston! I just die around this time of year which is awful because the weather is so nice - warm and cool not too hot nor humid - but often spend it feeling awful - itchy eyes, runny nose, sinus headaches, coughing, itchy achy ears...sigh! I take Claritin, Allerfree and also do acupuncture...with all three my symptoms subside quite a bit...I don't think I could live where you do, Wohlibuli! =0

I think the US govt needs to rethink it's scale for allergy sufferers!!! I really feel for those who do suffer allergies - lucky it doesn't last too long.

They call it hay fever here. My sister-in-law gets it. It's very unpleasant. It must be really bad for sufferers where you live. I think they should rethink their scale aswell, like Bernie

Yes Hywel Lots of people call it hay fever here also, but you know doctors they what to give it a new moniker... just to confuse people probably. : )
Just heard the pollen count for today and it is a record.... 3583. Mostly tree pollens including pine, of which we have a lot around here.
Driving home from lunch on Friday the highway was green. : )

My daughter gets it but its grass pollen that bothers her, so her small garden as no grass full stop, she is fine with tree pollen & flower pollen.

That happens here Wohlibuli.....except our pollen is yellow. Covers everything. You have to wash off the car windshield before you can drive anywhere. Amazing.

Good lord - it must be awful for those who suffer - I have a form that makes me alergic to blossom pollen and thats bad enough - my eldest grandson suffers all thro spring and summer - the only place he gets any releif is by the sea - but as we live just about the middle of England thats a bit of a problem!!! All the same Wohlibuli your garden is still great.

Oh that is too bad about your grandson, he must just be miserable. : ( It is bad when everyone else is outside having fun and you feel horrible. Thank you very much for the compliment, especially as I don't really even consider it a "garden", it's just a jumble of containers and boxes to grow my vegies in, with the ocassional flower tucked in so he (hubby) won't notice until it blooms. (Not that he would he knows nothing about plants except how they taste) : )
